Welcome to Guide Your Mind CBT.  Are you looking for a therapist who not only provides a safe place for you or your child to be listened to but also equips you with life long knowledge and skills to take care of your emotional and mental health?

I have over 30  years experience working with adults, children and young people in a variety of NHS settings.  My last role was providing Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in an NHS Psychological Therapies Service.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is considered to be one of the most effective forms of psychotherapy to come along in recent years. This reflects my own experience of helping people make significant changes through therapy and being able to lead happier and more fulfilled lives as a consequence.

What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy?

”Cognitive Therapy seeks to alleviate psychological stresses by correcting faulty conceptions and self-signals. By correcting erroneous beliefs we can lower excessive reactions” Aaron T. Beck.

CBT looks at your thoughts, feelings and behaviour and their impact on each other, how they keep your difficulties going and how they may be holding you back in life. The therapy relationship is a collaborative one that enables you to develop new understandings of your problems and develop new more helpful ways to move forward. This can be a life changing process that provides you with knowledge and skills and ultimately to become your own therapist.

Children & Young People

Why Cognitive Behaviour Therapy?

CBT  is an effective psychological therapy for a range of common childhood and adolescent problems.  Symptoms of anxiety often start during these years and early identification and treatment can prevent more serious problems in later life.

National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines are evidence-based recommendations for healthcare in England. They use the best available research evidence to develop recommendations for treatment. These guidelines recommend that evidence based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is an effective treatment for depression and anxiety in children and young people.

I have significant post-graduate training in CBT and experience of working with children and young people in a CAMHS setting.

I provide Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for children ( from the age of 7 years), and young people with a range of psychological difficulties including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression and self-harm
  • Self-confidence
  • Eating problems
  • Addiction
  • Significant life changes ( school transitions, bereavement)
  • Exam stress
  • Bullying in school

Therapy For Adults

There is a great deal of evidence that Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is an effective treatment approach for a range of emotional problems. CBT is now considered the Gold standard treatment for depression and anxiety and the techniques used in therapy are tried and tested.

In recent years CBT has expanded to include compassion focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness approaches.

According to the Royal College of Psychiatrists,

CBT is the most effective psychological treatment for moderate to severe depression and one of the most effective where anxiety and depression is the main problem”.

I provide face to face Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for adults with a wide range of psychological difficulties including:

  • Depression and low mood
